Building PickupLensFourEcho
Why we’re building PickupLens.
You shouldn’t have to pay for damage that was already on a hire car when you collected it. We’re building PickupLens to help renters fight unfair damage charges, with a clear record of the vehicle’s condition before they drive away.
A scratch was already there when you picked up the car. Now there’s a bill with your name on it. You’re left finding photos, writing emails and trying to prove you didn’t cause it.
“It was there when I picked it up” is much easier to support when you can show the damage in your collection photos. We want to help you get that evidence before there’s a charge to argue about.
Get the evidence before you need it
You’ve got the keys. Your bags are in the boot. You want to get on with your trip. Checking every panel of an unfamiliar car, perhaps in poor light or bad weather, takes attention. A scuff low on a bumper is easy to miss.
A few hurried photos only help if they show the damage clearly. That’s why we’re building a process you can follow, so you leave with your own record of the car you were given.
Walk around. Check the damage. Keep the evidence.
PickupLens brings guided capture and AI-assisted damage checks into one flow. Here’s what we’re building:
- Capture the car. Follow the walkaround to photograph its condition. Get the wider view, then move closer to show any damage clearly.
- Get help spotting damage. AI checks your photos for possible scratches, dents and scuffs. Review the highlighted areas, add your notes and take another photo if you need a better view.
- Keep a record you can use. Bring the photos and reviewed findings into a condition report, ready to refer to and share if a charge is raised.

Evidence you can point to
A charge for a damaged bumper needs a photo of that bumper. You should be able to find it, see the existing damage and share it without digging through your camera roll.
We keep your original photos intact, with highlighted views alongside them. The mark is easy to find and the unedited image is there to check. You can also make an optional return record, so you have a separate account of how you left the car.
Built on the renter’s side
The AI is there to help you notice damage while you can still do something useful: take a closer look and record it before leaving. It can miss a mark or mistake a reflection for damage, so you stay in control of what goes into your report.
A report can’t guarantee a charge will be withdrawn. But clear photos of existing damage give you something concrete to put forward when you challenge it.
That’s why we’re building PickupLens. We want renters to have the evidence to stand up for themselves when an unfair bill arrives.
Don’t pay for someone else’s damage.
